The Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) recently updated its University policy, RP04 Care and Use of Vertebrate Animals: the definition of animals in research now includes cephalopods. Additionally, as IACUC approval is only required for the use of animal carcasses, tissues, and parts in certain situations, the Applicability and Exclusion sections were updated to better clarify IACUC oversight. The use of animal/invertebrate biospecimens may require review by the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) and researchers should contact the IBC for more information.

In addition to smaller updates to reflect current processes, additional clarification is provided around who can serve as a PI.
