The Association of Research Libraries and California Digital Libraries have sponsored a pilot program to explore how machine-actionable data management and sharing plans (maDMSPs) can be leveraged to enhance and scale research support workflows and processes at academic institutions, thereby improving service efficiency, reducing researcher burden, increasing collaboration, and proactively addressing researcher data needs. This project will be carried out by the Penn State University Library in partnership with the Office of the Senior Vice President for Research. More information can be found in this press release.
Part of Penn State’s proposal included plans for a 2-day educational and collaborative event with various stakeholders across the University with the goal of pulling together individuals from different areas that might be able to make use of maDMSPs or who need to be involved in their development or approval. Our target participants are researchers, pre- and post- award specialists, lab and project managers, librarians, research compliance specialists including IRB/HRPP, high performance computing experts, and research IT specialists. Through various activities and presentations, discussions will be had around common data management challenges and how maDMSPs could improve the research experience at the University and strengthen the ways we already collaborate.
To that end, the Machine-Actionable Data Management Workshop will be held from 9am-4pm October 1-2, 2024, in the Dewey Room at the University Libraries on the University Park Campus. We have identified key stakeholders to attend and participate in the discussion but would like to put the call out to others at the institution who may work with or be impacted by research data management plans. Spots for the workshop are limited, so all interested parties should fill out this registration request form.
